Texas Prison Inmate Search

Do you need to find someone in Texas prison? If a family member or loved one has been sent to prison, you might be wondering how to find them. Probably you want to write to them and stay in touch while they do their time.

Texas Prison Inmate Search

I used to be able to display a form on this page that let folks search for inmates within TDC but the folks at TDCJ have changed the way things work and I cannot make it work now. I hope to have a solution soon. Meanwhile please continue to send your questions to me and I will keep trying to help y’all. Sorry for the hassle.

You can also check these other pages I have with information about Texas prison, Federal prison, and, soon to come, county jails in Texas.

  1. Can you help me fiqure out when my uncle will be able to get out for parole, his name is Raul Ramos and hes 40 years old and hes in for murder

    1. Hello Kamile, there are several Raul Ramos in the TDC system, but the one that appears to be your uncle based on what you wrote is at Ferguson Unit. The address at Ferguson is:
      TDC Ferguson Unit
      12120 Savage Drive
      Midway, TX 75852-3654
His TDC Number is 00712537, if you write to him be sure to include it on the envelope.
Looks like he will become eligible to go before the parole board in 2025, but his sentence is for much longer than that. It’s very hard to say when he will actually be released on parole because that is based on many factors including how he comports himself while he is incarcerated. He has served 20 years already, so I am pretty sure he has already made his choices about things like what group he has affiliated himself with inside, etc. Hopefully he is making good choices and does his best to stay out of trouble and continue to work on himself as a person so when he gets out he will be ready to face the world. The best thing to do at this point is to just hang tight and write to him when you can, it means a lot to an inmate to hear from family. Peace to you and your family ~ Magnum

      1. Hi, my name’s Sway and I came across your website today while attempting to find a friend who is in custody. I think your work on here is incredible. The situation is extremely complex and I do not want to put my friend’s business out there like that. I would like everything to be said in confidentiality. I really, really, REALLY need help finding him. Is there any other way I can contact you, preferably via email, besides on here? It would mean a lot if you could help me with this.

  2. Im looking for my cousin Refugio Martinez and his nickname is “Cuco” some says its his middle name but i dont know . I dont know his birthday but hes probably around his mid or late 30’s . I really need to find him asap. I havnt spoken to him in a year and his son who is also my cousin would really love to here from him . please help if possible .

    1. Hello Kamile, your cousin is at Hodges Unit. Looks like his full name is Refugio Coronel Martinez and his birthdate is 12-23-1979. Does that seem right? That would make him 35. You can write to him there, you need to include his TDC number next to his name on the envelope. Refugio’s TDC Number is 01902888. Here is the address at Hodge Unit:
      TDC Hodge Unit
      P.O. Box 999
      Rusk, TX 75785
Looks like his projected release date is set as Oct 2016, and that is usually a pretty good guideline. Best of luck to you, your cousin and his son. Peace ~ Magnum

  3. I m looking for a Joshua Sean Resnick. Birth date is 11/13/81. I have no idea what prison he is in. I know he got sent to state. Other than that no idea.

    1. Hi Jenn, I do not find Joshua Sean Resnick in the TDC database. If he just got transferred from county to state, it can take a couple days to show up. You can keep checking and he should show up soon. Peace ~ Magnum

  4. Hi I’m kind of confuse may be you can help me out but my husband has been sentenced for 35 yrs and he has 4 cases and I see that eachother case is for 5 years will he be doing the 5 year sentence or the 35? we are doing and appeal he has an a court pointer appeal how lucky do you think we will get on the appeal you think we will be able to give all the time back or at least have of it do you recommend that I get an appeal lawyer? His tdcj #01988681

    1. Hi Jansi, the other charges that he has 5 years each for will usually be served concurrently with the longer sentence, so basically it’s like he is serving all the sentences at once, for the first five years. I checked his case and his longer sentence is 30 years, not 35. His charges are what are called an aggravated felony, meaning it was done with a gun or with the intent to cause violence. These sorts of sentence usually requires that half the time be served before the inmate is eligible for parole, so he will need to serve about 15 years before he is eligible for parole.

Regarding an appeal lawyer, that I do not know because I don’t know if there are grounds for an appeal. If he was charged or sentenced unfairly, or if the trial wasn’t done fairly, etc. maybe there is a chance, but appeals are not all that easy, once you are locked up, the state really has the power in the situation. Good luck and peace to you and your husband ~ Magnum

  5. Hello,
I have an uncle I would like to write. I know his full name, TDCJ/SID Number, etc, but i’m not sure how the process of writing him actually works. I was wondering do I have to go through any specific steps of writing him or can I just send him a letter. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

    1. Hi M, you can just send a letter. You need to include his Name, and TDCJ number on the first line of the envelope, then the Prison and it’s address. If you don’t know the address of the unit he is at, you can find it here at the TDC Unit Directory: http://www.tdcj.state.tx.us/unit_directory/index.htmlYou have to have a return address on the envelope too, or they won’t deliver it. All mail that is sent in or out of a prison is opened and read before it is delivered to an inmate, so be aware that you should be careful to not discuss anything of a violent or illegal nature ever, you could get your uncle in trouble, they take it pretty seriously. You cannot include money in the envelope or anything besides photos. When I was incarcerated, receiving photos of almost anything was awesome. Of my family, my dog, a flower, a nice scene… its all contact to the outside world and can really be a mental break from the prison environment so if you have some to include it’s always nice to throw in the envelope. Peace ~ Donna

  6. I’m looking for a friends family his name is Pedro Baltazar Paniagua they try to look on the internet but they don’t find nothing he is arrested on Texas but they don’t know can you please help me to help them. He date of birth is 11-22-1982 and his pin is L88744379 and he call from that number 713-489-7846. Thank you!!

    1. Hi Joanna, If Pedro was recently detained, he is probably in a city or county jail waiting to have a hearing on charges. The state’s prisons are separate from city or county jails, and to find him you need to figure out what county or city he was in when he was arrested. Do you have an idea about that? The phone number you are getting calls from is a company named Global Tel Link and they provide phone service to jails and prisons all over the country, so we cannot figure it out from the number. Do you know what part of Texas he was in? That is the starting point for tracking him down. ~ Magnum

      (Inmate’s full name)
      Parmer County Jail
      P.O. Box 860
      Farwell, Texas 79325
Hope this information helps you out. Good luck and peace to you ~ Magnum

  8. In trying to search for someone that was transferred yesterday afternoon how long will it take to show up

    1. Hi Whitney, it can take a couple days for them to show up in the TDC system. I have found that sometimes JPay.com will show where an inmate is even before the TDC system does. If you are not familiar with them, check out their website. It is a service to send money or send mail to inmates electronically. My family found it helpful. I hope you find the person you are looking for soon – they will show up. Peace ~ Magnum

    1. Hi Mandy, I think what you are asking is if you can help prevent someone from being given parole. Parole eligibility is figured by a formula based on time served, the nature and class of the crime, and good time accrued. It is also affected by negatively disciplinary action or time in ag-seg for misbehavior. So, you cannot yourself affect when someone is ELIGIBLE for parole, but you can affect if they are granted parole. Family and friends of an inmate try to positively affect the outcome of a parole hearing with a support packet that gives the parole board an idea if the inmate will have a good support system, a place to live, and a job if they are let out on parole. On the other hand, the Victim Services Division of TDCJ is who looks at protest letters and other information from crime victims and concerned citizens. When you write to them you have to include the TDC number of the inmate in your correspondence. Click here to learn more about TDCJ Victims Services.
I hope this information helps out. Peace ~ Magnum
