Texas Prison Inmate Search
Do you need to find someone in Texas prison? If a family member or loved one has been sent to prison, you might be wondering how to find them. Probably you want to write to them and stay in touch while they do their time.
I used to be able to display a form on this page that let folks search for inmates within TDC but the folks at TDCJ have changed the way things work and I cannot make it work now. I hope to have a solution soon. Meanwhile please continue to send your questions to me and I will keep trying to help y’all. Sorry for the hassle.
You can also check these other pages I have with information about Texas prison, Federal prison, and, soon to come, county jails in Texas.
Hi my boyfriend Jesse galvan 8/19/87 has been transfered to garza west can I write him?
Would you happen to know his release date? Can i visit him if were not married?
Hi Alejandra. I imagine by now you have the answer to the questions you sent. You can visit your boyfriend if he has you on his list of people. I am sure by now you have the address to Garza West and have been writing to him, so best of luck to you and him and take care.
Question my baby’s father got sentenced Aug 28th 2013 to serve 6 months in TDC. He signed for 6 months in TDC & 10 years probation. I searched him and his projected release date is Jan 31 2018th ? I’m nervous on why its saying that ?
That doesn’t quite sound right. First of all, a sentence of 6 months would usually be in State Jail. State Jail sentences are for two years or less and are day for day, meaning there is no good time or early relase. But I haven’t heard of anyone having a TDC sentence for just 6 months in the first place. Regarding the projected release of 2018, well I don’t know without knowing more about the situation. If you want to send me another note with more details I will try to give my opinion but of course I am not a lawyer, just someone who has been there. Good luck to you and your boyfriend.
My dad went to prison for 9 months and I want to know why. Can anybody tell me how to find out? His name is Eric Locascio. PLEASE AN THANK YOU!
Hi Raylor. I was away from the blog for awhile. I bet by now you have already found where your dad is. I looked up his name and he doesn’t show in the TDC database. That means he might be in County Jail, especially since 9 months is not a very long sentence. I know it’s long to you, but it’s not in terms of TDC time. Or, he could be in a federal penitentiary. It all depends on why he is incarcerated. If you still need help finding him send me a few more details and I will try to help. Peace to you and your family.
My husbands name is melvin mitchell when is his parol date?
You may have gotten the information you need now but in a quick search I see that there are 2 Melvin Mitchells listed in TDC. One had a projected release date of yesterday, as a matter of fact. I hope that is the one you are looking for. The other has a date of August of 2014. You can look them up and figure out which one is yours by date of birth or race.
My husbands name is melvin mitchell 01850639 i am having a hard time trying to find out when he is up for parol?
I have a problem with the tx inmate locator and wonder why.
As a pastor I often start to write to men in county jails, in this case 200 miles south in Galveston Co to a Ronald Steel #176283 who was transferred to TDCJ somewhere for a four year term. I would like to continue this correspondence. He has been there for 20 days.
But I cannot locate him until he writes me apparently. I have been writing to others
incarcerated for periods of five years or more. We lock up more of our citizens than any other nation but then we tend to isolate them. The federal BOP does not isolate quite so much a Texas as I can find most on the BOP web site. Bro. Bob Thompson
Hello Bob, It is kind of you to take the time to write to inmates, they really appreciate letters more than you can imagine. And you are right, the U.S. approach to incarceration is ridiculous and isn’t working. It’s a shame. I am not sure why you were having trouble with the inmate locator, but I found the person you were referring to. You probably already got this information but he is at the Smith Unit. The address is 1313 CR 19, Lamesa, TX 79331-1898.
My husband is looking for his friend that was put in prison in the 90’s. We were under the impression that he would be released this year. We moved and lost contact with him, when I did a search on his name both came up as released. Any ideas on the best way to locate him so that I can reunit my husband and his friend?
Once your firned has been released it’s really anybody’s guess how best to find him, although I personally know several inmates who got out and set up facebook profiles right away so they could look for their old friends and family. No matter what you think of facebook, it is pretty awesome for finding people from your past. It’s cool you are trying to track him down and I hope you succeed.
Hello, I have got a question: I had a pen pal named James Michael Richard who was at Hughes Unit until the beginning of September. He has got a life sentence and won’t come up for parole until 2034. All of a sudden, he does not show up in in the database anymore. What does that mean? When someone gets moved, his information is not being taken out of the system, or is it? Does this mean that something happened to him?
Hmm, I am not sure. I do hope nothing has happened to him though. I did a qujick search and currently there are 3 Michael Richards in TDC and none are at Hughes or coming up for parole in 2034. There is one that has a sentence until 2076, at Estelle, could that be him? I am sorry you have lost track of your friend, that is very frustrating and scary I am sure. DO you know any of his family or friends on the outside you can contact, or do you know his cellmate to write to him to inquire? Unfortunately, I doubt the prison will tell you anything at all. Best of luck to you, I hope you have found him by now. One other idea, you might try to look for him on http://www.jpay.com, the site where you can send money to inmates. Sometimes they do a better job of keeping track of inmates than TDC doeds.
Hi Clio,
I’m a reporter in Los Angeles currently working on a story about a death row inmate at TDCJ; James Richard was a close friend of the person I’m writing about, and on the off chance that you check this forum, I was hoping you’d consider contacting me. Email me any time jaegerkyle@gmail.com.
Thank you,
Kyle J.
Kyle I saw your message and I have forwarded it on to the email that Clio used in her original post. ~ Magnum

Trying to see when is tavaris Hamilton #1521337 will be getting parole
Hi Trelanda, I am sorry I didn’t reply a lot sooner. I am sure you have gotten more information by now, but as you probablky know it’s very hard to say when someone will get parole, the best you can do is have a good guess at it and hope for the best. Hope he is out soon.
